SOUTH CAROLINA BEACHES

SOUTH CAROLINA BEACHES

The South Carolina Beaches are split in three distinct regions:
1. Myrtle Beach & The Grand Strand
2. Historic Charleston & Resort Beach
3. Lowcountry & Resort Island
The Palmetto State has visitors from all over the world coming to all three areas which all have their own unique culture and attractions.

Myrtle Beach & The Grand Strand

This is a great destination for a group or family beach vacation with it's 60 miles of white sand beaches that stretch from Little River to Georgtown. The Grand Strand is known for it's great seafood, historic tours, shopping cruises, two ocean side State Parks, deep sea and inshore fishing and the fabulous Brookgreen Gardens which is where you can see the world's largest collection of American Sculpture. Myrtle Beach is the hub of the Grand Strand and is where the action is. It has over 100 golf courses, tennis courts, outlet malls, live musical theatres, night clubs and lots of family attractions.
Other beaches  that are part of the Grand Strandare Pawley's Island, one of the countries oldest beach resorts, Litchfield Beach, a quaint reserved area, and Murrells Inlet, a historic fishing village. Other Grand Strand beaches include Garden City Beach, an unincorporated community, Surfside Beach, which calls itself "the family beach", and Little River which is a unique town that offers a slower pace than the rest of the Grand Strand.

Historic Charleston & Resort Beaches

Charleston, with its rich history is a place to see for its charm and beauty. The town boasts more than 800 historic buildings with each having its own piece of history.
Bull Island, is a one day ferry trip from Garris Landing on a 60,000-acre Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge .Folly Beach is the closest beach to Charleston, and is said to be the best beach in South Carolina with it's light house, fishing pier, and beautiful views. Isle of Palms, bordered by beautiful beaches, is a semi-tropical retreat with charm. Kiaweh Island has 10 miles of undisturbed Atlantic beach and five world-renowned golf courses. It is mostly privately owned, but Beachwalker Park is open to the public.  Seabrook Island offers a serene setting with its peaceful natural wild life, yet only 23 miles from Chartleston.

Lowcountry & Resort Islands

Haunting ambiance and romantic is a good way to describe this region and is what draws visitors back time and again. Edisto Island is one of the oldest settlements in South Carolina. This is a relaxed island offering restaurant and rental cottages, and for those who want to get back to nature, Edisto Beach State Park has cabins or campsites.
Fripp Island is just 19 miles east of Beaufort, SC, and resort guests enjoy posh accomodation while enjoying 3 1/2 milesof beach, 3 championship golf courses, tennis courts, and a seaside waterpark. Once you arrive, the favorite mode of transportation is a golf cart and can be rented by the day or week.
Hilton Head covers 42 square miles of beaches and is the largest sea island between N.J. and FL. It has some of the most luxurious accomodations in the country, nine marinas, and more than 2 dozen championship golf courses.
Hunting Island is a four-mile-long island that serves as a State Park and is located near historic Beaufort. It was once a hunting preserve for wealthy planters' families and is home to dense vegetation and wildlife and the Hunting Island Lighthouse.
